Biography And Filmography: Young Amber Tamblyn knew she wanted a life of show-business from an early age, mainly due to her father, Russ, and his role in Hollywood as a successful actor who has starred in both big-budget movies and television productions since the late 1940’s, including some of Hollywood’s biggest movies like “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”, “West Side Story” and "Twin Peaks". Using her father as a role model, Amber shot into the Hollywood limelight at age ten and has been working ever since. Tamblyn got her first break in television portraying the popular character Emily Quatermaine in the daytime soap opera, “General Hospital” (1995). While her character was created to appear in only a few episodes, Tamblyn won over viewers and spent the next seven years on the show.
Amber was born on May 14, 1983 in Santa Monica, California, and by the age of ten was playing the lead role in “Pippi Longstockings” at the Santa Monica Alternative School House. She was seen by a talent agent during the performance who convinced her to audition for the role on “General Hospital”. Her first job paid off as she won two back-to-back Hollywood Reporter Young Star Awards as Best Young Actress in a Daytimes Series. She then got her break on the big-screen with a small role in “Live Nude Girls” (1995), starring Dana Delany and Kim Cattrall, about a women who throws a nude sleepover party for her friend, a moderately successful actress, on the night of her fiancée's bachelor party. She also made guest appearances on various television shows including "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Michelle Trachtenberg, "Boston Public", "The Twilight Zone", "CSI: Miami" and "Without a Trace". In 2001, the actress left “General Hospital” to focus on her movie career and was quickly hired and cast in her second big feature, “The Ring” (2002) portraying Naomi Watt’s niece, Katie, where a young journalist must investigate a mysterious videotape which seems to cause the death of anyone in a week of viewing it.
Another block-buster role came her way in the role of Tibby in the adventure comedy "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" (2005), also starring Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, Blake Lively and Jenna Boyd, about four best girlfriends who hatch a plan to stay connected with one another as their lives start off in different directions: they pass around a pair of secondhand jeans that fits each of their bodies perfectly. Tamblyn was a star, and her celebrity status continued to rise. She then took a dramatic starring role as Stephanie Daley in the film "Stephanie Daley" (2006), where a pregnant forensic psychologist is hired to learn the truth behind the case of 16-year-old Stephanie Daley, who is accused of concealing her pregnancy and murdering her infant. Critics were impress at the seriousness Amber was able to bring to her role, and the film was a moderate box-office success. She then tried her hand at horror, starring in the thriller "The Grudge 2" (2006), set in In Tokyo, where a young woman is exposed to the same mysterious curse that afflicted her sister. She followed with another horror thriller in the independent film "Blackout" (2007), about three people from different walks of life who find themselves trapped inside a stalled elevator. What at first seems like an inconvenience rapidly escalates into a nightmare. She next appeared in the thriller "Spiral" (2007), about a reclusive telemarketer whose dysfunctional friendship with his boss is alleviated when a whimsical co-worker enters his life. She wrapped the year starring in the romantic drama "Normal Adolescent Behavior" (2007), about a girl named Wendy, and her friends who avoid the heartless world of random hookups and sex by spending all their time together.
Amber then rejoined the cast from "Traveling Pants" to replay her role of Tibby in the sequel "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2" (2008), based on Ann Brashares' best-selling series of books, about four young women who continue their journey toward adulthood that began with "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." Now three years later, these lifelong friends embark on separate paths for their first year of college and the summer beyond, but remain in touch by sharing their experiences with each other as they always have-with honesty and humor. Tamblyn then returned to her comedy roots in the film "Spring Breakdown" (2008), starring Rachel Dratch and Amy Poehler, about three women who vacation together at a popular travel destination for college co-eds on spring break. Next for Amber was the dramatic mystery "Beyond A Reasonable Doubt" (2009), also starring Michael Douglas and Jesse Metcalfe, in a remake of the 1956 film noir film "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt" where a writer's plan to expose a corrupt district attorney takes an unexpected turn. Tamblyn wrapped that year starring in the television move drama "The Unusuals" (2009), portraying Detective Casey Shraeger. Watch Amber Tamblyn In Her AMC Video Interview
