Biography, Filmography, Pictures And Video: Rebecca Romijn was born on November 6, 1972, and grew up in Berkeley California. She is the daughter of a custom furniture maker father and a mother who teaches English. It was her stunning appearance that got young lady noticed by talent scouts and casting directors. While still a student, she was approached by a talent scout over a school break during her freshman year at the University of California at Santa Cruz, who asked her to audition for a modeling job. She was quickly hired and relocated to Paris where she was employed by a top fashion and glamour magazine for over three years. She then moved back to New York in 1995. Not long after returning to New York, the model began to audition for television and film roles. She was soon hired and cast as the host of MTV's "House of Style", a job once held by friend and professional supermodel Cindy Crawford. The actress grabbed the attention of both audiences and casting directors, and soon found herself guest starring on the smash hit television sitcom "Friends", playing the role of girlfriend to Ross. She also grabbed national attention when she became a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, which helped the magazine record some of its best one-time sales numbers ever. Her first experience in movie making was in the comedy "Dirty Work" (1998), starring Norm MacDonald. While her part was a small one, it gave her valuable exposure and experience.
Romijn was then cast in a made for television move detailing the life of Playboy Magazine founder Hugh Hefner in the biographical "Hefner: Unauthorized" (1999), which detailed the sex, drugs, and nudity of the Playboy lifestyle, and the hip Playboy Mansion owner and Playmate maker Hugh Hefner. But the big break for Rebecca Romijn came in 1999 when she was hired for eight episodes on the trendy television sitcom "Just Shoot Me", starring David Spade, Laura San Giacomo, George Segal, Wendie Malick and Enrico Colantoni. The show focused around hot-headed journalist Maya Gallo who is unable to find a job anywhere and forced to go to work for Blush, her father's fashion magazine. "Just Shoot Me" shot the new actress into the world of Hollywood celebrity status. She then returned to the big screen in the thriller "X-Men" (2000), taking the role as Mystique, and starring an A-list group of celebrities including Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry and Anna Paquin, in the story about two mutants who come to a private academy for mutants whose resident superhero group must oppose a powerful mutant terrorist organization. For her role, Rebecca walked away with a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Supporting Actress - Science Fiction. Her star was rising, and the job offers started flooding in. The following year, the actress was cast in a supporting role alongside Chris Klein and LL Cool J in the sci-fi action film "Rollerball" (2002), where the big thing in 2005 is a violent sport which can have some pretty serious consequences - like dying. She was then cast in her first headline starring role opposite Antonio Banderas in the thriller "Femme Fatale" (2002), where her character tries to straighten out her life, even as her past as a con-artist comes back to haunt her. The actress wrapped her year by joining the original "X-Men" cast for the sequel "X2" (2003), where the X-Men band together to find a mutant killer who has tried to kill the President, and the Mutant Academy is attacked by rouge military forces. Rebecca walked away this time with a MTV Movie Award for Sexiest She-Villain.
She then starred alongside Greg Kinnear, Cameron Bright and Robert De Niro in the horror thriller "Godsend" (2004), where a couple agree to have their deceased son cloned, under the supervision of an enigmatic doctor, but bizarre things start to happen years after his rebirth. She then returned to comedy with "The Alibi" (2006), starring with real-life husband Jerry O'Connell and Steve Coogan, a cute story about a man who runs an alibi service for adulterous husbands and gets in over his head with a new client. Another comedy followed with "Man About Town" (2006), starring with Ben Affleck, Gina Gershon, John Cleese and Bai Ling, about a Hollywood talent agent who finds his comfortable existence threatened when he finds that his wife is cheating on him. Her last movie for the year was another sequel, and the third installment of the "X-Men" franchise titled "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006), where a cure is found to treat mutations and lines are drawn among the X-Men led by Professor Charles Xavier and the Brotherhood. She then returned to television in the starring lead role for thirteen episodes of the sitcom "Pepper Dennis" (2006), where she played Pepper Dennis, an ambitious reporter with her sights set on anchoring Chicago's top-rated evening news broadcast, but her spoiled, needy and recently separated sister Kathy, has moved in with her. Worst still, her last one-night stand, Charlie Babcock, shows up in the newsroom, takes her job and becomes her boss. The show was cancelled after its first season, but the actress proved she could carry a show on her own merits. And another big television opportunity was right around the corner. After guest appearances on the animated "Drawn Together" and Carpoolers", she took a supporting role in the drama "Lake City" (2008), starring Sissy Spacek and young Colin Ford, a drama about a mother and son who reunite under desperate circumstances years after a family tragedy drove them far apart. Her person life has always been part of the tabloid media, especially after she spilt with husband John Stamos for a younger Jerry O'Connell.
She once again returned to network television in the smash hot sitcom "Ugly Betty" (2008), starring America Ferrera. Rebecca portrayed Alexis Meade, an amnesia stricken transsexual, in the series about Betty Suarez (Ferrera), who is a smart, sweet and hard working girl. The only problem is that she is not skinny and gorgeous like all her coworkers at Mode, the high fashion magazine where she works. The show was a surprise smash hit, walking away with fourteen Emmy nominations and three wins, and Golden Globe nomination as well. Romijn wrapped her year in the starring role of Alice Allyson in the dramatic "Hatter" (2009), a thriller where a journalist reveals the secrets of a pleasure-seeking fashion designer.
