Biography And Filmography: As part of the popular ensemble cast of “Saturday Night Live,” comic Bill Hader quickly became known for his impressions of Al Pacino and a frustrated Vincent Price. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, he polished his comedy talents at the famous Los Angeles Second City, the well-known comedy training camp for several of the shows veterans. Before his break on SNL, he worked a number of smaller jobs including production assistant on the DVD “Empire of Dreams: the Story of the Star Wars Trilogy”, an assistant on VH1's celebrity reality show “The Surreal Life”, and as an assistant on the popular Ashton Kutcher MTV pranks series “Punk’d.”
In 2005, he produced and appeared in the film “Jenny Clone,” written and directed by his wife, Maggie Carey, who also played the lead role. His work with the Los Angeles comedy group “Animals From the Future” gained the attention of Megan Mullally of “Will & Grace” and she suggested Hader to “SNL” producer Lorne Michaels. He joined the show in 2005 as a featured player. In 2006, Bill got his first big movie break appearing in the Owen Wilson romantic comedy "You, Me And Dupree" starring Seth Rogen, Kate Hudson, Matt Dillon and Michael Douglas, about a best man who stays on as a houseguest with the newlyweds, much to the couple's annoyance. The following year he played the role of Brent in the Judd Apatow comedy "Knocked Up" (2007), starring Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl, where for fun loving party animal Ben Stone (Rogen), the last thing he ever expected was for his one night stand to show up on his doorstep eight weeks later to tell him she's pregnant. The film was a moderate summer success and showed critics that Hader had the comedy chops to for larger movie roles. He then teamed with Saturday Night Life pal Adam Samberg for the comedy "Hot Rod" (2007), where self-proclaimed stuntman Rod Kimble is preparing for the jump of his life - to clear fifteen buses to raise money for his abusive stepfather Frank's life-saving heart operation. The actor was on a role, and his fame was ready to take a giant leap with his next project.
In 2008, he was hired for director Nicholas Stoller's comedy drama "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" (2008) starring Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis and Hader, where a devastated man takes a Hawaii vacation in order to deal with recent break-up with his TV star girlfriend, Sarah. Little does he know Sarah's traveling to the same resort as her ex, and she's bringing along her new boyfriend. The film was a moderate success and was nominated for five Teen Choice Awards. That same year he again teamed with Seth Rogen in the pot smoking action film "Pineapple Express" (2008) starring Rogen and James Franco, about a stoner and his dealer who are forced to go on the run from the police after the pothead witnesses a cop commit a murder. While the star was appearing in popular and successful movies, he was yet to headline one on his own and always seems to play second fiddle, or a second tier supporting role - something not lost on critics. The actor wrapped 2008 in the Ben Stiller war comedy "Tropic Thunder" starring an impressive ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Ben Stiller and Jack Black, where through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying. The film was an action packed comedy summer blockbuster but struggled to find critical success among the other blockbusters of the season. In August of 2008 he had his first leading role in the Greg Mottola comedy "Adventureland" (2008) starring alongside Kristen Stewart and Ryan Reynolds, a comedy set in the summer of 1987 and centered around a recent college graduate who takes a nowhere job at his local amusement park, only to find it's the perfect course to get him prepared for the real world. Another large role followed in 2009 with the Ben Stiller sequel "Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian" (2009) starring Stiller, Amy Adams and Owen Wilson. The film brought to life of the Smithsonian Institution, which houses the world's largest museum complex with more than 118 million items in its collections.
With such a distinctive and raspy voice, it seemed only a matter of time before he ventured into voice work. This opportunity came with the animated movie "Hoodwinked 2: Hood vs. Evil" (2009) starring Hayden Panettiere as little Red Riding Hood, Patrick Warburton as the wolf, Amy Poehler as Gretel and Bill as Hansel. The comedy finds Little Red Riding Hood in training in the group of "Sister Hoods" when her and the Wolf get called over to examine the sudden and mysterious disappearance of Hansel and Gretel. The rising comedian has slowly started to stretch his comedy muscles by taking larger and larger roles. It seems only a matter of time before Hollywood rewards him with a starring vehicle well fit for such a unique talent. Watch Bill Hader In Forgetting Sarah Marshall Interview
