Biography And Filmography: Charming and young looking, Justin Long went from performing in small high school productions in Fairfield, Connecticut and the Laughingstock comedy troupe at Vassar College to headlining roles in movies and television, including his regular role as Warren Cheswick, the self-conscious high-school student whom "Ed" (Thomas Cavanagh) becomes a mentor to on the admired and original NBC series "Ed". The actor has appeared in 83 episodes of the trendy sitcom, and audiences and critics seem to love the actor. His first big screen break came working next to Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver in the sci-fi action adventure movie "Galaxy Quest" (1999), where the alumni cast of a cult space TV show have to play their roles as the real thing when an alien race needs their help. In 2001 the young actor was hired for his first big-screen starring role in the strange horror thriller "Jeepers Creepers" (2001), about a brother and sister driving home for spring break who encounter a flesh-eating creature in the isolated countryside that is on the last day of its ritualistic eating spree.
He was then cast as the character Donald, working next to Brad Renfro in the comedy movie "Happy Campers", a young teen comedy flick set at a summer camp in the middle of a revolution that was shown at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001. The film tells the story about what happens when a summer camp director gets injured, and the diverse group of college freshmen counselors who take charge and spice up the everyday routine of the camp. The movie was a mindless summer teen movie but was received well with both critics and audiences alike. He followed with a short but funny co-starring role opposite young teen pop star Britney Spears and Kim Cattrall in the independent adventure comedy "Crossroads" (2002), about three childhood best friends, and a guy they just met, who take a trip across the country finding themselves and their friendship in the process. He was next cast in the sports comedy "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" (2004) starring Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller and Jason Bateman, about a group of misfits who enter a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament in order to save their cherished local gym from the onslaught of a corporate health fitness chain. His first major leading role came in the form of the character Hal Nestor in the dramatic comedy "Raising Genius" (2004). The film was a sleeper hit about life, parenting and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) where Nancy Nestor (Wendy Malick) plays the "perfect" wife and mother at her wits' end trying to talk her teenage genius son Hal out of the bathroom where he has locked himself in as he works on a mathematical equation that involves watching the cheerleader (Danica McKellar) next door bounce on a trampoline. For his next project, he played a friendly car mechanic who rebuilds the famous animated Volkswagen Beatle Bug in the G-rated Disney remake “Herbie: Fully Loaded” (2005) starring Lindsay Lohan, Michael Keaton and Matt Dillon. Following "Herbie" was the low-budget comedy “Waiting” (2005) starring Ryan Reynolds, where he played a waiter who suddenly starts to become troubled over his dead-end life after learning about an old high school classmate making good with a lucrative engineering career. He wrapped that year appearing in the comedy short film "Robin's Big Date" (2005) next to Sam Rockwell. Justin's character tries to go on a date without his wing-man along to ruin the evening... but things don't work out well.
He then appeared with Jennifer Aniston, Vince Vaughn and Jason Bateman in the romantic comedy "The Break-up" (2006), where in a bid to keep their luxurious condo from their significant other a couple's break-up proceeds to get uglier and nastier by the moment. The following year, he joined with old friend Jonah Hill and funny man Danny DeVito in the romantic comedy "Just Add Water" (2007), an offbeat romantic comedy about a decent guy, Ray Tuckby (Dylan Walsh), with a dead-end life in the dead-end town of Trona, CA. After encouragement from a stranger whom he happens upon, Ray begins to dream again. He sheds the parasites in his life, musters the nerve to pursue his childhood love, and finally takes back his community by toppling the local teenage drug lord. He switched from comedy and tried his hand at action adventure, teaming with Bruce Willis in "Live Free Or Die Hard" (2007), a sequel to the successful "Die Hard" franchise that has John McClane (Bruce Willis) taking on an Internet-based terrorist organization who is systematically shutting down the United States. The actor wrapped his year lending his distinctive voice to Alvin in the animated holiday release of "Alvin And The Chipmunks" (2007), about the struggling songwriter named Dave Seville who finds success when he comes across a trio of singing chipmunks: mischievous leader Alvin, brainy Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler), and chubby, impressionable Theodore (Jesse McCartney). He started off 2008 with a bang, appearing with Steve Zahn, Jonah Hill and Harry Hamlin in the comedy "Strange Wilderness" (2008), a story about what happens when the ratings drop for a wilderness-themed TV show and two animal fans go to the Andes in search of Bigfoot to help boost ratings. (See Movie Trailer Below) He then jumped back into comedy with the film "Patriotville" (2008), for his first headlining role as Chase Revere. The movie is a funny tale of what happens when a man discovers that an Indian casino is about to be built over the town's historic battlefield and Chase Revere, the self-appointed protector of a small town's rather meager place in American history, joins forces with sexy but dangerous town sexpot to launch an all-out offensive against the project - earning the wrath of the entire town, who believe that the casino will save their decaying local community. After the release of "Patriotville", Long was a celebrity. His show business career was on the rise and he had a full plate of movie projects already lined up. The actor next teamed with young super celebrity Michael Cera in the comedy "Youth In Revolt" (2008), where while his trailer trash parents teeter on the edge of divorce, 14-year-old Nick (Michael Cera) sets his sights on dream girl Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday), hoping that she'll be the one to take away his virginity.
The following year, he worked with Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Ben Affleck and Drew Barrymore in the long anticipated comedy "He's Just Not That Into You" (2009). The Baltimore-set movie of interconnecting story lines deals with the challenges of reading or misreading human behavior, love, relationships and the world around us. Sticking to the comedy movies, he was next cast alongside Kristen Bell and Meg Ryan in "Serious Moonlight" (2009), about a high-powered attorney who duct tapes her adulterous husband to the toilet ... right before their home is invaded by burglars. Next was the animated family adventure movie "Planet 51" (2009) starring Gary Oldman, Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel and John Cleese, where the inhabitants of Planet 51 live in fear of alien invasion. Their paranoia is realized when an astronaut arrives from Earth. Befriended by a young resident, he has to avoid capture in order to recover his spaceship and try to return home. He voiced the character of the lovable Lem. His latest project is another animated family comedy titled "Alpha And Omega", due in 2010 and starring Hayden Panettiere, Christina Ricci, Dennis Hopper, and Long as the voice of Humphrey -a funny tale about two mismatched young wolves thrown are together by circumstance.
