Biography And Filmography: Matt Prokop has been gaining attention in Hollywood for the last two years. An avid soccer player, he began his career by acting in numerous middle school, high school and church plays, and at age twelve while attending an AMTC convention, was asked by several talent scouts and agents to travel to New York and start a career in show business. His parents, feeling he was still too young to become immersed in the celebrity life, put his plans on hold. During a family vacation to Los Angeles in 2005,
Matt decided it was time to begin his career and started taking
acting classes in Houston, Texas. His acting coach saw something
extra-ordinary in the young man, and shopped his name around for various
auditions. After eight months of acting classes, he was signed
by an agent and manager in Los Angeles and has been auditioning ever
since.
His first big television break was as a bully on the hit Miley Cyrus show "Hanna Montana", about a young girl who just moved from Tennessee to Malibu and now has to adapt to a new lifestyle, and lives a secret life as a pop singer, overseen by her manager, Robbie Stewart. He then had a small guest appearance role on "The Office" with Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer, a mockumentary about a group of typical office workers, where the workday consists of ego clashes, inappropriate behavior, and tedium. Based on the hit BBC series. He got his first big-screen break playing the character Zac in the independent short drama "Marked" (2007), the story of a young teenage girl who goes through a traumatizing event that changes her life forever. We follow her as she walks through various mythical locations and tells her story. She eventually decides to leave her troubled past behind and trust life again. He then accepted a small role in the dramatic "An Angel Named Billy", starring Dustin Belt, about a man Mark Anderson, a recent stroke victim who is frail and weak, and his best friend Thomas, a classic gay drag queen, who try to find his gay son the perfect mate. Some critics were concerned that Matt would take a role in such a controversial film dealing with homosexuality, but he gave a strong and believable performance that gained him valuable attention and experience. Another big
break for the actor came in the role of 15 year-old Cameron in the sports
comedy "Green Flash" (2008), where at the ripe old age of 30,
Cameron Day has given up his chances at pro-basketball fame and settles
into an aimless life. A chance encounter with a beautiful woman lands
him smack in the middle of Southern California's pro beach volleyball
scene. A naturally talented true athlete, he seems destined for sports
stardom once again until his old demons start creeping in, threatening
his chances at success. Prokop portrays the young Cameron through
flashbacks and visions.
But the big Hollywood career making job for him was the supporting role of Jimmy 'The Rocket' Zara in the Disney smash hit "High School Musical 3: Senior Year", starring Zac Efron, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu, where as seniors in high school, Troy and Gabriella struggle with the idea of being separated from one another as college approaches. Along with the rest of the Wildcats, they stage a spring musical to address their experiences, hopes and fears about their future. His role put him in the limelight, and audiences wanted to see more of the young actor. In 2008, it was rumored that after the exodus of the graduating class, that Matt would act as the anchor for the next HSM franchise film "High School Musical 4" set to debut on television in 2009. The plot for HSM revolves around the new class starting at East High and battling for the lead in the upcoming musical. Critics seem to agree that he would make a logical make anchor for the movie, and we expect after the release of "High School Musical 3" in October, the rest of the world will see why.
